Padres Reassign 8 Players to Minor League Camp

Baseball 15 Mar 2012

The Padres thinned the heard again today and reassigned 8 players to their minor league camp this morning.

Sent down were:

  • Eric Hamren – RHP
  • Juan Pablo Oramas – LHP
  • Robbie Erlin – LHP
  • Jose De Paula – LHP
  • Jason Hagerty – C
  • Rymer Liriano – OF
  • Blake Tekotte – OF
  • Edinson Rincon – 3B
Of that group there were several nice surprises for me as I watched them perform this spring.
  • Edinson Rincon really impressed me with his ability and attitude.  He hit .700 (7/10 with 5 2B’s), and no one could sneak a fastball by his quick bat.  As far as his attitude he worked hard in camp, showed no nervousness, and apparently is one of the leaders of the latin players especially when it comes to learning English and acclimating to the U.S. culture.  His defense needs some work, but the bat showed strong both in approach and results.
  • Rymer Liriano showed all the tools that I had heard about.  I don’t see him as a center fielder long run, but has good wheels, good arm, and could be a great answer for right filed at PETCO.  He has quick hands and a very strong swing that is still a bit undisciplined at times and needs some refinement so as not to be taken advantage of by better pitching at higher levels.  That being said he showed improvement in that area just in a couple of weeks of spring, seeming to relax a little, so his growth should continue.
