Padres Spring Training Roster Trimmed Again

Baseball 31 Mar 2012

The Padres made some more cuts from their spring training roster and are now down to 35 players in camp.

REASSIGNED:

  • Dale Thayer – RHP:  After throwing another scoreless inning in the early game today, lowering his ERA to 3.38.  He pitched in 10 games and held the opposition in check in all but one outing,  He challenged consistently with his fastball, and showed a hard late slider as well.  Dale had a very nice spring and hopefully keeps post in zeros in AAA, staying ready to help out the big league club if needed.
  • Brad Davis – C:  Brad new he was going to get sent down eventually, as John Baker had already been declared the backup to Nick Hundley.  None the less, he did a fine job behind the plate handling the staff during the back end of many spring games.  He also managed to post a .318 average facing a lot of unknown, hard throwing, often less that precise pitchers.
  • Jonathan Galvez – INF:  Actually he was sent down yesterday before the night game.  He was aggressive at the plate, rarely letting a fastball get by, as he posted a .371 average.
With these latest moves the Padre snow have 16 pitchers, 2 catchers, 10 infielders , and 7 outfielders in camp.  More decisions will be made in these final few days, with the final roster possibly not being fully revealed until the day before opening day.
