Fan Poll Results – Biggest HOF Snub for ’15?

Fan Poll Results – Biggest HOF Snub for ’15?

You were asked “Which ONE candidate that did not get elected in this year’s HOF vote was the most egregious omission?”

In one of our most participated in votes ever, here’s what you said:

  1. Mike Piazza – 28.7%
  2. Pete Rose – 21.5%
  3. Alan Trammel – 17.9%
  4. None, the voters got it right – 11.1%
  5. Tim Raines – 6.8%
  6. Jeff Bagwell – 6.5%
  7. Lee Smith – 3.9%
  8. Mark McGuire – 3.3%
  9. Edgar Martinez – 0.3%

I have to be honest that I am absolutely shocked that so many of the voters would choose to have Pete Rose enshrined. I can only assume one of two things of those voters who want him in:

  • They view the HOF not as a hallowed shrine of the game which if such should honor only those who respected baseball’s most protected tenets, but rather they see it as simply a museum with no connection moral, ethical,  or otherwise to MLB.  If this is the case, then so be it.  If the HOF is nothing more than a museum then it really doesn’t matter that much who gets in or for what reason.
  • They don’t understand the true significance of gambling on baseball and knowingly breaking the top rule posted in every MLB clubhouse for decades, “Any player, umpire, or club official or employee, who shall bet any sum whatsoever upon any baseball game in connection with which the bettor has no duty to perform shall be declared ineligible for one year. Any player, umpire, or club or league official or employee, who shall bet any sum whatsoever upon any baseball game in connection with which the bettor has a duty to perform shall be declared permanently ineligible.”  If you don’t understand the significance of this rule and the severity of what Rose did in violating it  then we should talk.

I was also surprised at how low the vote was for Jeff Bagwell, who’s numbers seem to warrant enshrinement especially considering the power numbers he posted in one of the most notoriously toughest hitters parks ever created, and the site of my MLB debut (lucky me!) – the Astrodome.

Look forward to debating these topics and others if you’re interested.

Thank you for voting, and hope you will take a moment to place a vote in the news Fan Poll just posted asking which new Padre player has had the largest impact on the team so far!

how is fred mcgriff not even on the list? I think the Crime Dog should be in. 493hrs 1550 rbis 2490 hits .500 + slug .886 OPS the dude would be considered elite in todays game, his problem is he played during the roided out era of baseball so he never won an MVP. But he has the best baseball commercial of all time so that should make up for it

Alan Trammel has my vote….he was a complete SS…..more so than Ozzie….he could hit….even with some pop…..turned a great DP……defense was great…..loyalty to Detroit! Overall better than Ozzie in my book! Other than the flip….

Couldn’t agree with you more! What he did was far worse IMO than any PED you can take. That guy is as selfish as it gets, and an absolute disgrace to the game.

Unfortunately Bob, some people were too young or simply don’t know the history of it frankly. And how hard the owner at the time took it and eventually died. Adored Rose and he just spit on him. This guy is an exemplary a-hole.
