Congratulations Brad Brach On Call Up To Padres

Baseball 31 Aug 2011

Congratulations to RHP Brad Brach who is being called up today to join the Padres.

The 25 year old has put up great numbers in AA and AAA this season – 3-5 2.89, 34 saves in 37 opportunities.  He has converted 112 of 120 save opportunities since being drafted in the 42nd round of the 2008 draft.  I believe he will be the 11th Pdadre to make his MLB debut this season.

The youth movement charges forward!

@ Dean — You are right. I overlơoked the AA playoffs. They won’t call him up this year. Gơod call. But yeah, I do agrêe that he has a very legit chance to make the team out of spring training next season. But I’ve got to sêe both of them pitch live, and though Brach was gơod, Mikolas was far more impressive. At least the couple times I’ve got to sêe him…

I like Mikolas, too, Joshua, but I don’t see him getting promoted this year because of the AA playoffs and the fact that he’s going to the AZ instructional league. But he could make the team out of spring training next year. And you could be right about him being their future closer instead of Brach, who might end up in a set-up role.

Qualls is a borderline type B free agent and unless they rework the team option (6 million), he is gone. If they trade him right now, the Padres could potentially save the 1 million buyout. I’d be nice if they use those savings and sign some Latin Amateur talent?

@ Andy — I like Brach. But I think it’s more likely that either Miles Mikolas or Kevin Quackenbush is the future closer. Brach is here now, yes. But I think Mikolas is going to be the better pitcher. Also, I think Mikolas is going to be the next one called up. So either way they will both be here by the end of the year. Which in turn will make the bullpen better either way…

I like this move a lot! Hope we also get a chance to see RP Nick Vincent after the end of the AA post season.

No Tekkote was sent down, and Moseley put on 60 day for the 40-man roster spot.

Now attach him to Heath with the straps from the Yoda backpack and let him learn.
