Pads reported to be acquiring Rays SS Jason Bartlett

Baseball 08 Dec 2010

According to MLB.com’s Corey Brock the Padres have agreed in principal on a trade for Tamp Bay SS Jason Bartlett.  Cesar Ramos and Adam Russell are the names being suggested by Corey as the players going to Tampa.

That should solve SS issue at least for 2011.  Pirates were also in hot pursuit, but Pads appear to be winners.

Bartlett hit .254 last season, after batting a career best .320 the previous year.  His average slumped in May and June while reportedly having some hamstring problems.  He has also had some knee issues apparently the previous year, all of which appears to be affecting his defense which has had a downward trend in recent years.  I believe the 31 year old is eligible for arbitration for one more season then will be eligible for free agency for 2012.

Stay tuned as more information about this possible deal surfaces.
