Padres In The Midst of A Perilous Plunge

September 6th, 2010 | Written by Bob Scanlan

Anyone who follows the Padres realizes that the team has been in a terrible slide, having lost an unimaginable 10 games straight. No one denies that this team is currently staring straight into the face of throwing away what so far has been one of the most unexpectedly fun, and successful seasons in recent history.

Time for Padres’ team nicknames to grow up.

July 27th, 2010 | Written by Bob Scanlan

Hey Padres fans, isn’t it time to stop using the terms “Little”, “Small”, and “Baby” in nicknames for the Padres? Isn’t it time for this organization to grow up, and sit at the big boys’ table?

Pads have several needs at trade deadline, but what pieces will they add?

July 26th, 2010 | Written by Bob Scanlan

It’s that time of year when every team needs to make the determination, “Are we buyers, or sellers with the trade deadline approaching?”  For some the answer is obvious, but for others the answer is not so clear.  Either way the possibility of trades, either to get that one piece that can put a team over the top, or to start the rebuilding process for the future, creates a firestorm of speculation, opinions, and rumors.

Response to Facebook postings about giving credit where it has been earned.

May 27th, 2010 | Written by Bob Scanlan

Thanks for all the positive input (see Facebook postings by clicking on icon above). Glad to hear there are some Pads fans who are enjoying and appreciating what this team is doing. Giving credit where it is due, to a team that is busting their tails everyday and flat out winning games is not a cop out.

HeyScan email accusing me of misleading Padre fans

May 27th, 2010 | Written by Bob Scanlan

“The Padres are who we think they are” I understand that you want people to be pumped about this team. However, let’s wait and see how this pitching staff does the second or third time they face these teams. We know we can’t hit and that the Dodgers, Giants, D-Backs and Rockies have much better hitting lineups. Sadly the Padres are an injury away from falling to 4th place. Please don’t mislead the viewers.

Here are some of the topics covered today:  Who gets moved out of the rotation when CY comes back, is bullpen an option for Latos or CY, are Pads still leading league in stolen bases, what is the Butcher Boy play, why does Adrian switch balls after the inning, how can a guys OBP be lower than his batting average, how’s Everth, why announcers use the giant hand held microphones, and the hand signals that pitchers give to their middle infielders with a runner on first.  Comments welcomed!

I know it’s only one game in April, but damn that comeback victory was nice!

April 29th, 2010 | Written by Bob Scanlan

I’m usually not one to make a big deal about a team’s single victory in April. In fact, I usually laugh when I hear people say “This is a MUST win game for this team” when referring to any game prior to July 1st. However, yesterday’s 6-4 Padre victory over the Florida Marlins really forced me to stop, and take notice of what this team has been saying to the baseball world for half a season now.

Howard signing may put Adrian further out of reach

April 27th, 2010 | Written by Bob Scanlan

It was already going to be difficult for the Padres to justify putting 25% of their overall payroll into one player, even if that player is an offensive powerhouse, gold glove winner, and all around good guy for the community.  It may have just become even tougher with yesterday’s announcement of another N.L. first baseman signing a record contract.
