Congratulations Chase Headley For Being Named N.L. Player Of The Week (Aug. 12)

Baseball 13 Aug 2012

Congratulations to Padres 3rd baseman Chase Headley for being named the N.L. Player of the week, for the period ending Aug. 12th.

He collected hits in 5 of the six games the Padres played last week, including 3 multi-hit efforts, hitting .333 (8-for-24), leading the N.L. with 11 RBI and tying for the league lead with three home runs. His .750 slugging percentage ranked third among N.L. batters and his 18 total bases and six runs scored were tied for third.

In Friday’s series-opening victory against the Pittsburgh Pirates at PNC Park, Headley led the Padres, going 2-for-4 with two homers, one from each side of the plate,  and five RBI in the 9-8 win. It was his third career multi-HR game.   He then hit a HR in his next at bat the following game, making that 3 consecutive HR’s, in three consecutive at bats, on three consecutive pitches.

In a post game interview he did with Ted Leitner and me after his 2 HR effort on Friday Chase acknowledged that he was glad that the trade deadline had passed, and that he was feeling more relaxed at the ballpark each day.  The results speak for themselves.

Congratulations to Chase on receiving this award for the first time, and I hope it’s the first of many!
